This is my opinion on the movie Enough

Hi, you guys, and welcome back to Watching TV with Nay. I am your host, Nay, and we are going to be talking about the movie Enough. It stars Jennifer Lopez and Billy Campbell in it and Tessa Allen. You can watch it on Tubi TV. It is one hour and 55 minutes. Of course, if you're using Tubi because it is free, there is ads. This movie came out in 2002. So it starts with Slim is a waitress, and that's who Jennifer Lopez plays. And he comes into the restaurant because him and his friend Robbie made a bet, but Mitch chickens out of the bet and it ends up marrying um Slim and having a life with her. But that all takes a turn for the worse when um he starts abusing her. One thing that I did do while I was re-watching this is that I forgot the titles as when I was watching them, so I had to go back and re-watch that so I could get them. But I loved the title names that they did for like the scene. So like the first one, I'll just go in the order that they appeared. It's hey, how they met, to have, to hold, conquering hero, our happy family, more than enough, get out, you can run, new leaf, and take care. So those were like the names of the scenes, and I just thought those were like really interesting because if you read those and watched the from the start to the end, all of those fit into place really well. Um, like even when it says like conquering hero, uh, Mitch will Slim really loves this house. And Mitch goes up to this guy and is like, My wife really loves your house. We're going to buy it. And he shows him a number of how much he's willing to buy the house. And he goes, like, are you the guy's like, Are you crazy? Um, and he's like, you know, you'll be surprised what a sane person an insane person will do and how he can bug you and da da. And he goes on and on and on, and pretty much he ends up getting the house. Um, at their wedding, you know, uh Phil gives Mitch some money. He's like, I know you don't need it, um, but here's some money. So, yeah, so it's like it has like this happy feeling, and then Gracie's born, and then like, you know, Slim tries to be like really seductive to Mitch and like, can I get in the shower with you? Let's try to have a good time. And Mitch is like, I don't want to have that. And then while she's down in the kitchen, his phone rings, and of course, she is intrigued and she looks into it and calls the number back, and come to find out it is his Mitch, his mistress, Darcelle, Darcella, or something like that. And when Slim confronts Mitch, Mitch pretty much says, You know, I make the rules, you have to live with it. And he's like, Isn't this great now? I don't have to sneak off and say that I'm going to work. I can just tell you that I'm with Darcella. And Mitch, I mean, Slim tries to deal with it for a while, and then she's like, No, you've been caught. Like, I we're not going to act like you have not been caught. You have been caught. You uh you are doing an affair, you're just not going to walk all over me. And then that's kind of like when the abuse starts to happen because he's like, I make the rules, you don't make any rules, I pay for everything, you don't pay for anything. Um, which is like like when you think about it, that's like really sad. Just because you make money doesn't mean that you have that much say over a person, and that you feel like you own that person. That person still is a person, they still have the right to think for themselves and do things for themselves, and nor should you use anyone. If you feel like you have to do that, then maybe you don't need to be married to anybody. And then um, when Slim goes tells his mom, I forgot the mom, even so that she goes, What did you do, honey? What did you say to him? Instead of her trying to be like, Oh my gosh, I can't believe my son did that. She pretty much went around and asked Slim, like, what did you do to him to make him act that way? Um, and then there's this one scene when they're at the dinner table and Mitch and Slim are having this conversation, and he it turns to Gracie really quickly, and she looks at Slim like I'm in trouble or something's wrong here. I don't know what's going on, but this does not feel right. And re-watching that, I was like, I didn't even notice that. Like, if you kind of pay attention, this if you re-watch it again with like Gracie, Gracie has all these facial expressions where it's like, oh my gosh, like I totally missed that. I wasn't paying attention to her, I wasn't looking at her. And she, and for her to be that little who uh the actress was Tessa Allen, she did really good. Like, you know, at the time she was probably only like three or four when this came out, so yeah, she did really good on that. Um, one of the hard scenes for me to watch is the hotel scene because he freezes all of Slim's accounts, and pretty much her friend Jenny has to put it on a credit card, and she's Jenny's like, Well, maybe you should go to a shelter, and Slim's like, No, uh, Gracie hasn't been tainted yet, she's fine. And then she hangs up the phone and then it rings again, and then she's like, I said no, Jenny, and then it's him on the phone, and he starts repeating back the conversation to her, like of what she had with her friend Jenny, and then the door starts jiggling, and she's trying to hurry up and get her and Gracie out of the motel room. She's running as fast as she can. She's trying to catch the bus. I'm telling you, when I watch that scene, even though I've seen it so many times and I know she makes it on the bus, I'm screaming like, run faster, come on, you can do this. And it's just like, oh, and you know, that's and this is a real thing that women and even some, maybe even men go through with domestic violence, that their partner thinks that they have that much say and that much control over them, and they don't. Well, I that's what I believe. You don't have that much say and control. And then I like that she went to see her friend Joe in uh Seattle, and she felt, like she said, she felt safe, she felt comfortable, she felt like this is where she needed to be. But then, of course, Mitch brings some fake FBI looking agents there, which I you can tell they're fake, and it scares Slim and Gracie, and they pack up their things and they leave during the night. Um, one scene that I really do appreciate that grew over time is Slim's uh relationship with her biological father, Jupiter, because he was like a player back in his day, so he was like, I don't help anybody, everybody up here says they're my kids. But I do like that eventually Jupiter did come around and help uh Slim in the long run and helped Gracie. One other scene that I think is really sad is when they're in the house because they buy the house, Slim goes by a new name, her name is Aaron. Uh Mitch hires his friend Robbie, who's uh an officer, law officer, and he goes to Michigan, they find her. Uh of course, Joe has come to visit her in Michigan, and you know, they kind of tell each other how they feel about each other, and then Joe leaves. But what's really scary is that Mitch gets into the house and he's fighting Slim. And this is like the first time Gracie sees it, and Gracie's trying to help her mommy and she's fighting, and she's like, Daddy, get off, mommy, stop. And she's screaming and she's hollering. I don't know how they did that as actors, because that has to be a hard scene to portray. Um, you know, because you know, like every like when you read about who the who the actors are, they're really nice people from what people have said. So, like, you know, that had to be hard acting, and then to act like you're pushing Gracie off of you and you're fighting and all of this. So I think that scene's done very tastefully, and I can you can tell that it was done. I I really I enjoyed the scene because it shows how it keeps getting the climax is getting higher and higher and higher and everything. So I like that. I even like the car scene chase where she had planned out, like Slim had planned out everything if she ever ran into him, what was going to happen, how this was going to work, how that was going to work, even with the chasing with Robbie, like she knew what kind of car to get. Even when she goes through underneath the when she bustes through the gate and goes underneath the the railroad thing thing, it hits his car, but it doesn't hit her car. Um, and I even like the fight scene at the end, the fight scene where she brings the paperwork in and says, like, yeah, I you know, I'm here to talk to you about Gracie. You didn't want to talk. And I like that she took back that control and said, No, I can fight you. And and yes, she physically fought him, but she was like even telling him, like, I can fight you now. I'm not going to be scared of you anymore. I'm not going to run from you. You're not going to have this much control for me. So, re-watching all of this again, I really did enjoy it. Um, and some things that you might have seen some of these other characters from or actresses from, uh, like Jennifer Lopez, you could probably have seen her in uh Selena. That's one that she's really popular for. I know for um Billy Campbell, I saw him in I Know What She Did Last Summer, the new movie that they made. I haven't really seen Tessa Allen in anything that like that I know right off the top of my head. Uh Juliet Lewis, I've seen her in movies, but I can't pick one off. And then Noah Well, uh, he's from The Pit. He was also starring in this, but it's a really good movie to re-watch. It's I always think it's a great topic to talk about domestic violence if you are watching a movie like this, because it is a reminder that people do go through this. This is not something that is brought up that is fiction or fake. This is a real thing. And that, you know, people feel this way. If you've ever been a survivor, if this has happened to you, I'm so sorry, but I'm glad that you've made it out okay. But yeah, this is the movie that I re-watched, and like I said, it's a good movie. It's not one that you keep in rotation, but it I know I've let my daughter watch it so that she can kind of see like things can be perfect, but things can change, and you do need to talk things out and you do need to say something and don't be fearful. Uh, make sure, you know, it it opens up a topic for everything. So yeah, I always think it's I just think it's a nice movie to watch every once in a while, not something that you need to keep on repeat. But that is the movie that I watched today.
